Is it free to check RC status?
Yes, checking your RC status via the official Vahan portal is completely free for citizens. You do not need to pay any fees to view your basic vehicle details.
Why is my vehicle not showing on Vahan?
If your vehicle is very old (registered before 2006) and the local RTO hasn't digitized their records, it might not appear on Vahan 4.0. You will need to visit your local RTO to get the records digitized.
Can I check the owner's address?
For privacy and security reasons, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) hides the full address and masks part of the owner's name on public searches. Only authorized personnel can view full details.
How accurate is the online data?
The online data is pulled directly from the centralized national registry. It is updated in real-time as soon as changes (like ownership transfer or insurance renewal) are processed by the RTO.
